UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's hockey freshman forward Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) was named to the College Hockey America Rookie Team on Thursday evening. Yoxheimer led the Nittany Lions in goals (14), assists (17) and points (31) this season.
A sharpshooting lefty, Yoxheimer ranked in the CHA's top 10 in goals (tied-6th), assists (9th), points (tied-5th), while leading the league in shots with 169 attempts on net. Nationally, Yoxheimer was ninth in points per game by rookies.
During the season, Yoxheimer was named CHA Rookie of the Month for November, tallying four goals and five assists for nine points. She was also named CHA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 22 during a stretch of games where she scored in seven straight contests.
On the All-CHA Rookie Team with Yoxheimer were Mercyhurst forwards Emily Janiga and Jenna Jingeldein. Mercyhurst's Lauren Kilroy and Nicole Renault of Syracuse made up the All-CHA Rookie Team defense. Lindenwood goaltender Nicole Hensley was named CHA Rookie of the Year.
Penn State finished 7-26-2 in its inaugural campaign as an NCAA Division I program. The Nittany Lions will have a lot to look forward to in its second season. PSU graduates one senior from this year's team and welcomes in a strong newcomer class in the fall. The Nittany Lions open $90 million Pegula Ice Arena in September and host their first games in the new facility in October.
