UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Penn State Lady Lion freshman guard Lindsey Spann (Laurel, Md.) will be sidelined after tearing her right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a workout. Spann had successful surgery to repair her knee on Monday. A timetable for Spann's return has not been set.

"Although it's a disappointing start to her career, Lindsey has displayed a great attitude and approach to this unfortunate situation," Lady Lion head coach Coquese Washington said. "She will work hard in rehab and return to the court ready to be a player of tremendous impact."

Spann, who was the 22nd-ranked player by Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and 88th-rated player by Blue Star Basketball, averaged 15.9 points, 5.3 assists and 2.4 steals with an 80% free throw percentage as a senior. She led Good Counsel to a 25-5 overall record and 16-3 mark in league play and was instrumental in guiding the Falcons to the WCAC Championship game for the seventh time in nine years. She had 30 points, including a 13-for-16 effort from the free throw line, in the WCAC Championship game.

The Laurel, Md. native was a two-time first team All-WCAC player and was a first team choice by the Montgomery Gazette and Washington Post at Good Counsel. She was a nominee for McDonald's All-America and Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year. Spann participated in USA Basketball's U16 Trials in May 2011. She played her AAU ball for the Maryland Lady Terps.
