UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 13th ranked Penn State women's soccer team continues its three-game road swing this weekend, traveling west to match up against two first-time opponents in Oklahoma State and Tulsa. The Nittany Lions will face OSU on Friday before challenging Tulsa on Sunday.
Penn State (4-1-1) enters the weekend on a three-match winning streak after recording a 6-0 shutout at Bucknell on Tuesday. The Lions used six goals from five different players in their win over the Bison. Sophomore Mallory Weber (Novi, Mich.) notched her first multiple-goal game of the season, sending two into the back of the net while Emily Hurd (Sammamish, Wash.), Maya Hayes (West Orange, N.J.), Corey Persson (Danvers, Mass.) and Liv Brandy (Gibsonia, Pa.) also scored for the Blue and White.
Hayes leads Penn State in goals (6) and points (15) and sophomore Raquel Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica) leads the way in assists with five.
Oklahoma State comes into Friday's match at 3-1-2 after drawing with then-No. 2 Florida State and falling to then-No. 10 Florida last weekend. The Cowgirls snapped Florida State's 21-game home winning streak, battling the Seminoles to a 1-1 tie on Friday before dropping their first match of the season to Florida, 2-0, on Sunday.
Freshman Courtney Dike leads OSU with six goals and one assist while sophomore Madison Mercado has notched three goals and two assists.
Friday's match will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Penn State is 5-6-1 against current Big 12 opponents, most recently drawing with West Virginia, 2-2, in the season opener on Aug. 23.
Tulsa heads into the weekend with a 4-1-0 record after splitting with Arkansas and Oral Roberts last week. The Golden Hurricane fell to the Razorbacks in a 1-0 decision on Wednesday before overpowering ORU, 2-0, on Friday.
Tulsa is led by seniors Camille Pelley and Bradi Hinch. Pelley and Hinch have each posted two goals and Pelley has also tallied one assist.
Sunday will be Penn State's first match-up against the Golden Hurricane and will also serve as the Nittany Lions' first contest against a Conference USA opponent.
The Blue and White return to Jeffrey Field next Friday to host Northwestern in their Big Ten Opener. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
