Penn State Kicks off 2013 Season in Cougar Classic

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., - The Penn State women's golf team heads to Charleston, S.C. this week to compete in the 11th Annual Cougar Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston. The tournament is being held at the 6,204 yard par 72 Yeaman Halls Club located in Hanahan, S.C., and spans three days, beginning Sunday, September 8 and culminating Tuesday, September 10.

A total of 20 teams will compete in this weekend's event including: Auburn, Baylor, Charleston Southern, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Florida, Furman, LSU, Maryland, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Missouri, NC State, UNCG, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wake Forest and Wisconsin. Five of the 20 teams in this weekend's event are currently ranked within the top 25 according to the Golf World/ WGCA Coaches' Preseason Division I Poll. The top teams include No. 10 Florida, No. 20 NC State, No. 22 LSU, and No. 24 Baylor.

Last season, Penn State finished 13th at the Cougar Classic and will look to knock off defending Cougar Classic champion, Florida this year. Senior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) also looks to continue her success at this course as last season, she finished in a tie for sixth and was awarded the Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week award for her performance.
