Women's Fencing Team Dominates Temple Open

Philadelphia, Pa. -

Nine members of the Penn State women's fencing team traveled to Philadelphia last night to compete in the Temple Open this morning, which began at 8 a. m. This meet served as their first collegiate competition of the season. Eight members of the men's team will compete tomorrow, with action set to begin again at 8 a.m.

The Penn State Nittany Lions were dominant in all events this past Saturday during women's competition day.

Freshman Desree Ortega-Furgeson had an outstanding performance this weekend and took first place in the women's foil event. Junior Alina Antokhina tied for third place with April Whitney of Cornell University. Freshman Elana Dickman took home twenty-fifth and Freshman Daniella Ortiz walked away with twenty-ninth.

Freshman Jessie Radanovich also had an incredible performance this weekend and placed first in the women's epee event. Freshman Sarah Waller took home fifth.

Junior Elizabeth Rapp tied for third with Andrea Haley of Temple University in the women's saber event. Freshman Teodara Kakhiani took home eigth and sophomore Brianne Cavaliere took eleventh.

The Penn State men compete in day two of the Temple Open Sunday. Results from the men's will be posted on gopsusports.com tomorrow evening. The squad then hosts the Penn State Garret Open on Saturday, November 9th here at Penn State in University Park, Pa.
