Temple Open 2013 Men's Results
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -
Eight members of the men's fencing team competed in day two of the Temple Open in Philadelphia, Pa. today. The competition began at 8 a.m. this morning and served as the team's first collegiate competition of the season.
Yesterday, the women's fencers competed and Penn State saw strong play from many of the freshman women's fencers. For the recap and results of day one and the women's competition click here.
Today's results were no different for the freshmen men's fencers. Penn State saw great success in day two, taking first place again in two of the three fencing events. Of the freshmen competing, all had ranked in the top 5 of their events. All eight fencers that competed managed to rank in the top 15 within each of their respected events.
Freshman Spencer Amann dominated the men's epee event taking home first place for the Nittany Lions. Freshman Conor Shepard walked away with third and freshman Oskar Tang took home twelfth.
Freshman Howie Chan also had an outstanding performance in his event of men's foil. Chan managed to take home first place while freshman Nicholas Graziano placed fifth.
Junior Sean Moran took home fifth in men's saber followed by freshman David Akrami taking sixth. Junior Michael Brand placed eleventh and freshman David Filteau placed thirteenth.
The squad will host its next competition at home with the Penn State Garret Open on Saturday, November 9th and 10th here at Penn State in University Park, Pa.
