UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Sean Grier (Hummelstown, Pa.) was awarded the Counsilman-Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com men's Division I swimmer of the week accolade for his strong showing in the season-opener vs. West Virginia.
The second team All-Big Ten selection from a year ago competed in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly events and touched the wall first in both races. Grier was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay team, finishing with a time of 1:29.27.
The senior reached the NCAA "B" qualifying standard in both individual events in the opener. Grier turned in a time of 48.30 in the 100 backstroke event, finishing just under the standard of 48.49. In the 100 butterfly, Grier also finished .19 seconds better than the NCAA "B" standard, recording a time of 48.10
Grier and the Blue and White travel to Buffalo for their first away meet of the season on Nov. 2 to face the Bison in a meet that is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
