ABOUT THE HOOSIERS
The defending NCAA champs, Indiana (4-5-1, 1-0-0 Big Ten) has struggled to string together a winning streak, failing to win back-to-back games through 10 matches. IU has scored 18 goals, but has allowed 17. The Hoosiers have played five overtime games, going 0-4-1 in those matches. IU is 4-2-1 at venerable Armstrong Stadium. Last time out, the Hoosiers fell 2-0 at Notre Dame on Wednesday. Last week, Indiana handled Ohio State, 2-0, in Bloomington.

A dynamic offense is led by a bevy of offensive threats including Nikita Kotlov (3g, 2a), Tommy Thompson (3g, 1a), A.J. Corrado (2g, 3a) and leading scorer Femi Hollinger-Janzen (4g). In net, Michael Soderlund has played every minute save for a 5-4 overtime loss to West Virginia. Soderlund has a .707 save percentage and a 1.26 goals-against average.

LAST TIME OUT
The Nittany Lion men's soccer team was unable to take advantage of its offensive opportunities and dropped a hard-fought 1-0 double-overtime match to Saint Francis on Wednesday night (Oct. 2) at Jeffrey Field.

Despite holding a 17-7 edge in shots and finding twice as many shots on net as the Red Flash, Penn State was unable to find the game-winner. Ultimately, a long ball on a counter attack from SFU led to a misplay back to the goalkeeper, allowing SFU's Ryan Byers to tap home the winner and earn the Red Flash's first win over Penn State in 11 tries.

The match nearly ended with five minutes to go in regulation when Penn State's Owen Griffith had an open look in front of net, but his header didn't have enough juice and SFU goalkeeper Daniel Valcicak made the diving save.

BEEN A WHILE
The Nittany Lions haven't had the best of success at Indiana's Armstrong Stadium. In fact, Penn State hasn't defeated the Hoosiers at Armstrong since 2005. Moreover, the series has gone Indiana's way the last two times, both 1-0 wins in 2011 and 2012. During the 2010 Big Ten Tournament Penn State downed the Hoosiers 2-1 at Jeffrey Field in the semifinals.

LIONS OVERWHELM BADGERS
The Penn State men's soccer team won its Big Ten opener on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 29) at Jeffrey Field by defeating Wisconsin, 3-1. Martin Seiler and Eli Dennis tallied strikes and the Badgers provided an own goal as Penn State won its fourth straight match.

With the game deadlocked at one through 77 minutes, Shane Campbell beat his defender down the right wing and passed a ball to the near post to a running Jordan Tyler. The crafty redshirt-junior beat his defender and crossed a ball in front of the net that was knocked in by the Wisconsin defense for an own goal and a 2-1 Penn State lead.

Five minutes later Penn State salted the game away as Randy Falk sent a beautiful cross to a running Dennis on the left side of the penalty area for the final 3-1 score line. The goal was Dennis' second of the year and Falk's first assist. Connor Maloney set the play up as Falk made an overlapping run on the right wing.
