Fencers Finish North American Cup Strong

CLEVELAND, Oh. - The Nittany Lion fencers completed day three and four of the North American Cup and saw strong results from fencers across the board.

Events held on day three included Division 1 Men's Epee, Division 1 Women's Saber, and Junior Women's Foil.

In the Division 1 Men's Epee event, Penn State saw action from freshmen Conor Shepard, Oskar Tang, Spencer Amann, Patrick August, sophomore Daniel Ashkeboussi and senior Ben Freiman. Shepard finished the day with 11th place out of 310 fencers. Tang, Amann, and August all finished in the top 100, while Ashkeboussi and Freiman finished in the top 215.

In the Division 1 Women's Saber event, senior captain Nicole Glon finished in 10th place, while freshman Elana Dickman placed 84th out of 123 fencers.

And for the Junior Women's Foil event, freshman Elana Dickman finished in the top 100. Freshman Desree Ortega-Furgeson placed 108th while freshmen Daniella Ortiz tied for 111th place.

Events held on the fourth and final day of competition included Junior Women's Epee, Division 1 Men's Foil, and Junior Men's Saber.

Penn State saw an outstanding performance from sophomore Jessica O'Neil-Lyublinsky as she tied for 3rd place in Junior Women's Epee taking home a bronze medal. Freshman Jessie Radanovich also competed and placed 43rd in the event.

Another bronze medal was awarded to Penn State in the Division 1 Men's Foil event as senior captain David Willette also tied for his third place finish. Sophomore Nobuo Bravo took home 6th place.

Lastly, in the Junior Men's Saber event freshmen Adam Lewicki, David Akrami, Vincent Argenzio, David Filteau and sophomore Kaito Streets all competed. Streets took home 7th placed in the event. Lewicki and Akrami both finished in the top 30 and Argenzio and Filteau finished in the top 105.

In conclusion of the North American Cup, Penn State racked in two silver medals and two bronze medals. The fencers' next competition is Sunday, December 8th in Fairfield, CT in a match against Princeton, Harvard, Vassar, and Sacred Heart.
