UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's basketball team will open their season tonight (Fri., Nov. 8) at 7 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 8) evening against St. Francis (Pa.) at the Bryce Jordan Center. The Lady Lions will also raise the 2012-13 Big Ten Championship banner prior to the game.

Penn State closed the 2012-13 season with a 26-6 overall record and a 14-2 record in Big Ten play to claim their second straight Big Ten regular season championship.
The Lady Lions welcome back Big Ten Player of the Year Maggie Lucas, but lost three of their five starters to graduation. Dara Taylor returns to run the point for seventh-year head coach Coquese Washington, while Lucas, Candice Agee, Ariel Edwards, Talia East, Tori Waldner return to the court.
Eight newcomers enter the fold, with seven freshmen looking to contribute during their first season on campus.
The Red Flash finished 17-16 last season, but also return just two starters from last season. However, St. Francis brings back leading scorer and rebounder Alli Williams who scored 17.0 points and grabbed 10.7 rebounds per game in 2012-13. The Red Flash played in the Women's Basketball Invitational after reaching the NEC Championship game.
