FRENCH LICK, Ind.- For the second year in a row, the Penn State women's golf team placed fourth at the Big Ten Championships. In the third and final round, the Nittany Lions shot a 298, totaling 912 (306-308-298) strokes. The blue and white finished 48 strokes over par, finishing 17 strokes behind the winner.
Senior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) recorded a third round 77, giving her 227 (75-75-77) strokes for the tournament. Vosters finished at 11 strokes over par and tied for ninth, which is her career best finish at the Big Ten Championship's. Junior Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ont.) tied for 15th after posting a final round 74. Junior Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Que.) tied for 18th after finishing 14 strokes over par.
"I am very proud of this team. They fought hard and worked together and everyone had their moment of stepping up to help the team," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "It really was a team effort. The conference is strong from top to bottom and we beat some very good teams. This team just keeps getting better. My hope is that this finish will give us the bid we are looking for to the NCAA's."
For the second consecutive year, there was a tie for the team championship as Ohio State and Michigan State both finished with 895 strokes. Both teams finished 31 strokes over par. Jessica Porvasnik of Ohio State captured the individual championship as she finished at even par, three strokes ahead of her teammate and second place finisher Zoe-Beth Brake.
With the regular season now complete, the Nittany Lions await to see their destiny at the NCAA's. Penn State is currently ranked 62nd in the Golfstat rankings.
