Nittany Lion Distance Runners Set PRs On Day One of Stanford Invite

PALO ALTO, CALIF. - The Nittany Lion distance runners opened their outdoor season with a bang Friday night at the Stanford Invite, recording PRs for most of the squad amongst a highly competitive field.

Junior Leigha Anderson (Carlisle, Pa.) ran a 16:08.74 in the 5000 meters, charting a new PR as well as the fifth fastest time in Penn State history. Abbie Benson (Elma, N.Y.) opened the night for the Nittany Lions with a 3:51.25 in the steeplechase, a PR for the junior. Junior Katie Rodden (Ardmore, Pa.) ran a 35:29 in the 10,000 meters.

On the men's side, senior Nick Scarpello (Jamison, Pa.) started the action at Stanford with a PR in the 5000 meters (14:19.90). Later that evening, junior Wade Endress (Altoona, Pa.) ran well in the 1500 meters, setting a new PR of 3:51.25.

Action at the Stanford Invite concludes Saturday. The remainder of the Nittany Lion squad will compete at the Crimson Tide Invite, which is also being held on Saturday.
