Aug. 17, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - In exhibition play Sunday night, Penn State outscored Pacific, 5-1, at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex. The two squads played three 30-minute periods with a running clock.

"I thought everyone played really well," said head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss. "We stuck to our structure and we had some really good goals."

The Nittany Lions received two first-period scores from senior Jenna Chrismer (Mountain Top, Pa.), each directly resulting from a penalty corner. The first was deflection in front of the cage and the second came off a rebound after a shot following the insert.

Later in the opening period, senior Taylor Herold (Fredericksburg, Va.) fired one in goal from right of the cage.

Following a scoreless second period, the Tigers notched a goal early in the final period. Penn State answered, as sophomore Emilee Ehret (Philadelphia, Pa.) put one past the Pacific goalkeeper after making a couple of moves to get an open shot from right of the cage. With 10:41 remaining in the contest, junior Bethany Mink (Allentown, Pa.) added to the total, scoring a goal of her own.

Penn State officially opens the 2014 season on Friday, Aug. 29 at 5 p.m., welcoming Old Dominion to the Penn State Field Hockey Complex. The Nittany Lions travel to Delaware on Aug. 23 for an exhibition.
