UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State women's tennis team wrapped up their second day of matches on Saturday. At the Midland Tournament, Victoria Kisialeva (Toronto, Canada) defeated Shannon Beckett of Texas State 8-1. Kisialeva was then defeated by Seda Arantekin of TCU 8-4. Kim Surin (Montreal, Canada) defeated Franziska Sprinkmeyer of North Texas 8-3 and Katelyn Jackson of Texas Tech 8-3. Surin is set to take on Palina Dubauets of TCU. Dasha Sapogova (Belarus, Minsk) fell 8-4 to Anastasiya Shestakova of North Texas. Sapogova rebounded to defeat Alexis Czapinski of Kansas 8-5. Devan McCluskey (Phoenix, Ariz.) lost to Elizabeth Thoms of Texas-Arlington 8-3. Katia Blik (Moscow, Russia) slipped to Marcela Cichon of Tulsa 8-3, but then defeated Amy Lowther of UAB 8-1.
Penn State also had two doubles team compete on Saturday. The team of Kisialeva/Surin defeated Bhat/Oliver of New Mexico 6-1. The duo went on to defeat Cichon/Leenabanchong of Tulsa 7-5. They are set to take on Pereira/Arantekin of TCU in the round of eight. The other doubles partners of Sapogova/Blik defeated pieratti/Gutierrez of Texas State 6-4 and Hinton/Collins of Kansas 6-3 before falling to Zimmerman/Beazant of Rice 6-4.
"Overall I was pleased by our doubles play. We came through in some pressure situations," said head coach Chris Cagle. "In singles, we were not as successful in no ad games. That being said, we are here to get quality match play and see where we need to improve. Today showed us some areas that I think we will be better in tomorrow."
