CHARLESTON, S.C. - Penn State women's golf team completed the final round of the Cougar Classic Tuesday. The Nittany Lions finished the tournament in 19th place with a team total of 910 (+46) after shooting a 303 (+15) in the third round.
In the third round, senior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) again played steady golf with 14 pars on her way to an even par 72. Ceresko finished the tournament with a two-over 218 and was tied for 26th as an individual. Fellow senior Katlyn Ellliott (Peterborough, Ontario) finished the tournament strong shooting a three-over 75 a 35 (-1) on the back nine. Junior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) carded a 76 (+4). Morell ended the tournament with 229 (+13) strokes, finishing 79th in her first tournament as a Nittany Lion. Senior Catherine Herrera (Houston, Texas) finished up with an 80 (+8) on the last day of the Cougar Classic, Ariana Coyle Diaz (Mount Merrion, Ireland) shot an 81 (+9) in the final round.
"The team is just getting started and I believe we are better than we ended up," head coach Denise St. Pierre said "Ellen Ceresko had a great opening tournament and I am very proud of her. Halley played consistently for her first appearance as a Nittany Lion and is a nice addition to our team."
Arkansas won the tournament with a total of 846 strokes (-18), the lowest team total in Cougar Classic history. Sandy Choi of Duke University took home individual honors shooting a 68 (-4) in the last round to finish with an 11-under 205 for the tournament.
The Nittany Lions return to action when they host the Nittany Lion Invitational October 4-6 at the Penn State Blue Course. Admission to the tournament is free.
