Meadows of Dan, Va. - The Penn State men's golf team is in third place at the Primland Collegiate Invite after shooting a 280 and 278 in the first and second rounds, respectively, to total an 18-under 558 on Monday.
Junior JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) leads the way for the Nittany Lions with a 6-under 138 (69-69). He will enter the final 18 holes tied-for-eighth overall. Trailing Dornes by a stroke is freshman Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.), who tallied a 139 two-round total and is in tied-for-12th place.
Senior Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) is tied for 19th after posting a 69 in round one and a 73 in round two. He'll begin Tuesday with 142 strokes at the Primland Resort in Meadows of Dan, Va. Sophomore Cody Cox (Milford, Pa.) fired a 68 in the second round to propel himself to a tied-for-23rd ranking and 143 score through 36 holes.
Rounding out scores for the Blue and White was sophomore Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario), who posted a pair of 72's on the day to make even par 144.
Host team Wake Forest holds a four-stroke lead over Auburn going into day two of the Primland Collegiate Invite, marking a 27-under 549 team score. It is William Register of North Carolina, though, who holds the first place player ranking with a 13-under 131.
