Senior Q&A: Megan Siverling

Oct. 14, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The second senior Q&A from the Penn State women's swimming and diving team comes from Megan Siverling (Chester Springs, Pa.). Siverling picked up wins in the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle events in the season opener against Georgia Tech on Oct. 3. Check back next week for another Q&A.

Q: Why did you choose Penn State?

A: I loved the fact that Penn State had virtually every major and club you could imagine. The opportunities were endless. The swimming program also really impressed me. But, what really struck me was that at the other schools I visited, no one was nearly as obsessed with their school as Penn Staters were. There's something about Penn State pride that is contagious and all-consuming. I can't tell you how many times complete strangers have dropped what they're doing and come talk to me or scream "WE ARE!" across a room because I'm wearing a Penn State t-shirt and they or one of their family members is an alum. I got a taste of that sense of family and community on my recruiting trip and it's only grown in my four years here.

Q: What is your major, and what are your plans after college?

A: I'm majoring in nutrition and I hope to become a registered dietitian. Right now, I'm applying to dietetic internships, which are year-long programs for post-graduates. Once that internship is finished I'll be eligible to take the RD exam and hopefully I can start working in a clinic!

Q: What is one word to describe your time at Penn State?

A: Opportunity. The places I've been able to travel as a Nittany Lion, the memories I have made here and the moments I've gotten a chance to be a part of have been life-changing. Most of all, the people I've met here--teammates, coaches, classmates, professors, mentors, friends--have made such an impact on me and it's hard to imagine how much would be missing from my life if I'd spent the past four years someplace other than Penn State. I know that the people, places and opportunities that have made such a difference in my life are unique to this school and the community around it.

Q: What was your favorite class/professor at Penn State?

A: Theatre 100 with Rob Schneider was the most fun I've ever had in a college class. If I had the choice between taking a nap and going to class, I would go to class every time. It was that entertaining.

Q: What is one thing you want to do before you leave State College?

A: I really want to watch the sun rise from the top of Mount Nittany.

Q: What advice do you have for future classes?

A: It sounds cheesy, but don't take your time here for granted! We have so many incredible opportunities as student-athletes that are easy to miss out on if you don't keep your eyes open for them.

Q: What is your favorite flavor of ice cream from the Creamery?

I love vanilla yogurt.
