KNOXVILLE, TENN. - The Penn State women's golf team completed the opening round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships, finishing with a 317 (+33). The Nittany Lions are currently tied with East Tennessee State for 13th place.

Junior Grace Chung (Richmond Hill, Ontario) paced the team with a four-over 75, making three birdies on her front nine. Chung is tied for 29th after the first day. Freshman Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Ireland) carded a 79 on the first day, sitting in 64th place individually. Senior Erin Michel (Mason, Ohio) managed two birdies on her front nine, ending with an 81 (+10). Senior Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ontario) and junior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) rounded out the Nittany Lions with a pair of 82s in the opening round.

Kent State leads the event after the opening round, shooting a five-over 289 as a team, while Taylor Totland of Furman holds the individual lead. Totland achieved the lone under-par round of the day, shooting 70 (-1).
