Oct. 2, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -Placekicker Sam Ficken (Valparaiso, Ind.) has been dubbed this week's Iron Workers Union No. 3 "Ironman of the Game" for his performance in last week's home game vs. Northwestern. Ficken booted a pair of field goals measuring 42 yards and 36 yards.

Approaching bye week, the Valparaiso, Indiana native has a total of 42 points for the Nittany Lions this season. Ficken became the 11th player in school history with 200 points after this season's 48-7 win over Massachusetts. Moving his way up the records chart, this year's co-captain is currently tied for fifth place in school history for career field goals with 40.

This is the second Ironman award for Ficken, who was named "Ironman of the Game" after the Croke Park Classic. He nailed a 36-yard game-winning field goal.

Successful on and off the field, Ficken was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy last week. He is a Dean's List student that is on track to schedule in December with a bachelor's degree in finance.
