SYRACUSE, N.Y. - An outstanding performance between the pipes and a pair of power play goals led the Penn State women's hockey team to a 2-2 tie with Syracuse on Saturday.

Freshman Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) made 50 saves, including 23 in the first period, for the 12th-most stops in program history.

After Syracuse (2-3-5, 1-0-1 CHA) got on the board exactly five minutes in to the game, the Nittany Lions (3-4-3, 0-1-1 CHA) knotted the score 4:19 later. On the power play, Amy Petersen (Minnetonka, Minn.) pushed the puck from the top of the nearside faceoff circle to Bella Sutton (Shoreview, Minn.) on the blueline. She took a slap shot and Laura Bowman (Minnetonka, Minn.) was able to cash in on the rebound during a scramble in front of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

With just a minute-and-a-half left in the first period, however, Jessica Sibley snatched back the Orange's lead.

As the game clock wound down, the Nittany Lions spent increasingly more time in Syracuse's end. With 4:20 left in regulation, the Blue and White were awarded a power play and made the most of it. The advantage started off strong, with Sutton rocketing a shot that ricocheted off of the post. Penn State maintained possession and were rewarded with the equalizer shortly thereafter. Petersen took the rebound from a Kelly Seward (Williamsville, N.Y.) shot to the corner, circled and ripped off a shot past the goalie's glove for the 2-2 goal, the game's final tally.

Petersen's eighth of the year tied her with Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) for most goals scored in program history by a sophomore in a single season.

Penn State continues its central New York road swing with a two-game set at Colgate next weekend.
