UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State returns from Thanksgiving break with a two-game set at Robert Morris on Dec. 5 and 6. The opening faceoff for both games is at 3 p.m.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
Sitting fifth in the CHA standings, Robert Morris (4-10-3, 1-3-2 CHA) is coming off of a 5-1 non-conference defeat to Ohio State on Nov. 28. The Buckeyes scored five unanswered goals before Leah Carlson scored her first career goal with seven minutes left in the third period. The team has been helped by 321 blocks, with three of the players each blocking 32 shots, tied for second in the CHA. Between the pipes, Courtney Vinet and Jessica Dodds have combined for a 3.11 goals against average and a .903 save percentage.
WHITLINGER WOWS
Celine Whitlinger earned her second CHA Goaltender of the Week honor on Nov. 24 after posting her first career shutout, and the first solo shutout in Penn State history, a 3-0 win against Lindenwood. The junior made 21 saves for the shutout in the first game against the Lions. Eighteen of her stops came in the final two periods, as her record improved to 4-4-0. The junior's four wins this season match her career win total going into the 2014-15 campaign. The only Nittany Lion goalie to win the weekly award, she is just the second CHA netminder this season to win a pair of weekly titles.
POWER PLAY POWERHOUSE
The Nittany Lions have produced one of the top power plays in the country, scoring at least one power play goal all but one weekend this season. Amy Petersen and Laura Bowman lead the team with three goals each, helping Penn State to the 12th-best power play in the nation (20.8%).
MINNETONKA MAGIC
Amy Petersen, Laura Bowman and Hannah Ehresmann have helped lead the Nittany Lions to its best start in program history at 7-6-3. Petersen is second in the conference with 1.12 points per game, the 30th best mark in the NCAA, and her nine assists are the fifth-most in the CHA. Bowman also has nine assists and is second in the CHA with 0.44 powerplay points per game. Ehresmann is third in the conference with a 1.82 goals against average and a .940 save percentage.
WHAT AN HONOR
For their historic start to the season, the Nittany Lions have been rewarded famously with CHA weekly awards. Celine Whitlinger is a two-time Goaltender of the Week honoree. Hannah Ehresmann and Caitlin Reilly both captured Rookie of the Week accolades, with Reilly earning a pair of Rookie of the Week honors, while Laura Bowman is a Player of the Week pick. The six CHA weekly honors are the most in a season in program history.
THAT'S A PLUS
Jordin Pardoski has taken her role as team captain to a new level. The junior ranks second in the CHA with an outstanding +7 rating, one point higher than Emily Laurenzi's single season record of +6, set in 2012-13. Pardoski has two assists and six shots on the season.
NEXT TIME OUT
Penn State hosts Mercyhurst in its final games of the fall semester. The teams play on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 13 at 2 p.m.
