UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State fell to Tulane 4-3 in the spring opener Sunday. Junior Victoria Kisialeva (Toronto, Canada) defeated Nicky Stracar 6-2, 6-0. Samantha Tutelman (New York, N.Y.) won her match in straight sets over Jacqui Katz. Devan McCluskey (Phoenix, Ariz.), playing in her first spring match in two years, fell to Naz Karagoz 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3.
Jacqueline Zuhse (Boca Raton, Fla.) competed in her first matches of the season as the redshirt sophomore was defeated by Vanessa Nommensen 6-2, 6-0. Katherine Whiteaway lost 7-6(5), 6-2 to Meredith Maltby.
Penn State captured the doubles point as Kisialeva and Dasha Sapogova defeated Nommensen/Stracar 6-3 while Devan McCluskey and Kim Surin beat Atkinson/Karagoz 7-6(4). Jacqueline Zuhse and partner Katherine Whiteaway fell to the duo of Birol/Katz 6-3.
