UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Feb. 2, 2015 - Penn State women's hockey freshman Caitlin Reilly (Chanhassen, Minn.) picked up College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Week honors after a three-point performance during the Nittany Lions' undefeated series against Syracuse.
This is Reilly's third Rookie of the Week honor this season.
In the weekend opener, the Chanhassen, Minn., native netted the game's first goal. Five-and-a-half minutes into the first, Reilly received a pass from Sarah Nielsen (Edina, Minn.) next to the Nittany Lions' bench. Reilly cut to the slot and outskated a pair of defenders, going in alone on Jenn Gilligan. She forced the goalie low and lifted it over her right pad for the 1-0 mark. She also had a major hand in Penn State's three goals in less than three minutes, a program record, leading to its 14th win of the year. Reilly dished out assists on Penn State's first goal and game-winner. Six-and-a-half minutes into the second period while on the power play, she fired off a quick pass beside her to Hannah Hoenshell (Plano, Texas), who ripped in the 1-0 score. 2:55 later during a player advantage, Reilly secured the puck behind the Nittany Lions' net and passed it up to Hoenshell who fed a long pass to Hannah Bramm (Tampa, Fla.), the goal-scorer.
Penn State ventures to Lindenwood next weekend for a CHA series against the Lions. The teams play on Fri., Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. (ET) and Sat., Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. (ET).
