UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State Nittany Lion Zack Beitz (Mifflintown, Pa.) has been named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week for the week ending Feb. 1, 2015. The honor is the third weekly award for Penn State this year and the first for Beitz, a sophomore.
Beitz used a late takedown at Michigan on Jan. 30 to down No. 9 Alex Pantaleo 6-4 in front of a sold out Cliff Keen Arena crowd, helping to lead Penn State to a 19-15 win over the Wolverines on Friday night. Two days later, Beitz dominated Michigan State's Nick Trimble, rolling to a 13-3 major decision as part of Penn State's 35-0 shut-out victory over the Spartans on Feb. 1. Beitz improved to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in Big Ten duals with the weekend sweep.
Penn State is now 10-2, 6-2 in the Big Ten. Michigan State falls to 4-9, 0-7 Big Ten. The Nittany Lions return to Happy Valley for the 2015 version of the BJC Dual. Penn State will host Iowa in a Big Ten battle in the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. The dual meet is sold out.
