FINAL RESULTS (All Events)

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - Led by first place finishes from Shane Ryan (Havertown, Pa.) and Nate Savoy (Reading, Pa.), the Penn State men's swimming and diving team completed competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational, Sunday evening in which there was no team score.

Ryan earned his third gold in two days with a 43.70 time in the 100 free, which was good enough for an NCAA `B' cut. He was fastest in the 100 back and the 50 free on Saturday. Finishing third and fourth behind Ryan in that event was Matt Stasiunas (Avondale, Pa.) and Zach Kantz (Mount Bethel, Pa.) with their 45.98 and 46.19 times respectively.

PSU pulled off an impressive achievement in the 100 fly as the top six swimmers wore blue and white caps and seven out of eight in the `A' final. Savoy was the fastest Nittany Lion with his 48.78 time, while Michael Skibniewski (Monroe Twp, N.J. ), Jonathan Ekstrom (Silver Spring, Md.), Andrew Schuehler (Camden, N.J.), Matt Grillo (Montreal, Quebec) and Will Walker (White Lake, Mich.) finished second through sixth.

PSU was led by Conall Loughlin (Blue Bell, Pa.) in the 1650 free with his career best time of 15.59.77. David Gross (Perryville, Md.) also medaled for head coach Tim Murphy on Sunday as he placed third in the 200 back (1:51.19).

Sophomore Michael Kwasnik (Shelby Twp., Mich) did not find himself on the podium Sunday but had a solid performance nonetheless, finishing fourth in the 100 breast with his 56.06 performance.

The Lions will now rest up for the Big Ten Championships, scheduled for Feb. 25-28 in Iowa City, Iowa.
