UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Another one of head coach Bob Warming's outgoing seniors will be playing professional soccer following their senior season at Jeffrey Field, this time it's Mikey Minutillo (San Jose, Calif.), who recently inked a contract with 07 Vestur out of the Faroe Islands' Premier League.
Minutillo wrapped up his Penn State career last fall, scoring eight goals and dishing out four assists while starting in 19 of the season's 20 matches. The forward amassed three game winning goals and was named B1G Offensive Player of the Week, Sept. 22, after scoring twice vs. St. Francis (Pa.).
He was also named B1G Pre-Season Player to Watch prior to the start of 2014, a year in which Minutillo and his mates went back to the NCAA Tournament's second round for the second time in as many seasons.
"I am so proud of Mikey because it has been quite a journey for him to get to this point," Warming said after the announcement. "He enrolled at Penn State without ever visiting campus because he trusted we would help him develop."
Minutillo began his collegiate career at Virginia Tech, playing the 2010 and 2011 seasons in Blacksburg before sitting out 2012 to come to Happy Valley. He earned 23 points suiting up for the Blue and White (9 goals, 5 assists), while starting 31 out of a possible 32 matches.
07 Vestur is one of 10 football clubs that call the effodeildin or Premier League home. The team plays its home games on the island of Vagar, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
Minutillo is the second PSU senior who will be playing professionally in 2015 as former goalkeeper Andrew Wolverton was selected by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the fourth round of the MLS Super Draft in January.
