Shuey Captures Javelin Title at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. --
Michael Shuey (Johnsonburg, Pa.) won the men's javelin throw Saturday, as the Penn State track & field team competed at the LSU Alumni Gold meet at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium. Shuey recorded his victory with his season-best toss of 242-8, which moved him into the top-10 in the NCAA this season.

Also capturing an individual title Saturday was Steve Waithe (Parkville, Md.); Waithe posted a season-best distance of 51-7.25 in the men's triple jump. His mark today moved him into the top-25 in the nation.

Along with Shuey in the men's javelin throw, Ryan Kerr (Brookville, Pa.) finished third (208-3) and Cole Proffitt (Manheim, Pa.) placed sixth (197-11).

In the women's javelin throw, Kayla Zoschg (Emporium, Pa.) recorded a top-10 finish for the Nittany Lions with her ninth-place finish (136-6).

The women's hammer throw featured a pair of top-five finishes from the Nittany Lions. Rachel Fatherly (Williamsport, Pa.) tallied a runner-up finish with her personal-best toss of 186-1; her mark moves her into sixth all-time in the Penn State record books.

Also in the women's hammer throw, Annjulie Vester (Homburg, Germany) rounded out the top-five with her mark of 176-3.

Megan Osborne (Chillicothe, Ohio) and Dynasty McGee (Flint, Mich.) tallied fourth-place finishes in their respective events. Osborne posted a time of 24.67 in the morning section of the women's 200-meter dash and McGee clocked in at 53.66 in the women's 400-meter dash.

Shelley Black (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) and Quenee Dale (Ypsilanti, Mich.) both ran season-best times of 13.89 in the women's 100-meter hurdles; they finished 12th and 13th, respectively. Dale remains in ninth-place in the Penn State record books.

Sancho Barrett (Amityville, N.Y.) posted a top-five finish for Penn State in the men's 110-meter hurdles; he clocked in for a season-best time of 14.23 to finish fourth.

The women's 800-meter run featured a pair of season-best times, including a personal-best performance from Julie Kocjancic (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Kocjancic ran 2:12.06 and Victoria Crawford (State College, Pa.) tallied a season-best time of 2:13.17. Kocjancic and Crawford finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

Bobby Hill (Wellsboro, Pa.) and Xavier Smith (Douglassville, Pa.) made their season-debuts in their respective events Saturday. Hill posted a time of 1:53.72 en route to a seventh-place finish in the morning section of the men's 800-meter run, while Smith finished 16th (10.68) in the men's 100-meter dash.

All four Penn State relay teams posted season-best performances Saturday.

On the men's side, the quartet of Barrett, Smith, Cody Minnig (Levittown, Pa.) and Alex Shisler (State College, Pa.) finished 11th in the 4x100-meter relay (41.70) and the 4x400-meter relay of Smith, Robert Rhodes (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Riley Gaibler (Lansdale, Pa.) and Shisler clocked in at 3:12.32 to finish eighth.

The women's 4x100-meter relay of Dannielle Gibson (Nassau, Bahamas), Deja Davis (Shelby Charter Township, Mich.), Osborne and Dale finished eighth with their time of 46.33 and the 4x400-meter relay of Osborne, McGee, Tichina Rhodes (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Davis placed third with their time of 3:39.36.

Also on the track for the Penn State men, Shisler recorded a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (48.11).

In the shot put events, Jon Yohman (New Wilmington, Pa.) finished third (54-11.50) on the men's side, while Fatherly claimed sixth (51-5.50) and Alyssa Robinson (Saint Clairsville, Ohio) placed ninth (47-9.75) in the women's shot put.

Discus throwers, Darrell Hill (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Obeng Marfo (Ontario, Canada) both posted ninth-place finishes in their respective events; Hill recorded a toss of 164-8, while Marfo tallied a mark of 146-9.

Ahmenah Richardson (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Megan McCloskey (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) both tallied top-10 finishes in the women's high jump; Richardson cleared 5-7.25 for fifth and McCloskey tied for eighth with a height of 5-5.25.

Freshman Bryce Williams (State College, Pa.) posted a pair of top-five finishes in the long and triple jump events. Williams finished runner-up in the long jump with his leap of 23-3.25 and he placed fifth in the triple jump with his distance of 47-9.25.

For the Penn State women in the horizontal events, Gibson finished fifth in the invite section of the triple jump (41-0.25) and placed eighth in the invite section of the long jump (18-11.75).

Three Nittany Lions hit season-best marks in the women's pole vault. Lexi Masterson (Jeannette, Pa.) claimed second with her height of 13-1.75, while Hannah Mulhern (Altoona, Pa.) topped a height of 12-10 for ninth and Kasey Kemp (Irwin, Pa.) finished 11th with her height of 12-4. With their heights today, Mulhern moved into third all-time in the Penn State record books, while Kemp remains in ninth place.

Patrick Anderson (Kane, Pa.) tied for eighth in the men's pole vault with his height of 15-7.25.

The Nittany Lions head to Philadelphia, Pa., next week for the running of the 121st Penn Relays at Franklin Field. The Penn Relays take place April 23-25.
