Jones followed that up with a her blast over the right field fence. VanDerveer then sent a towering shot over the left field wall.

Saint Francis picked up another run in the top of the fifth, but Penn State added on nine more runs in the bottom of the frame. Despite scoring nine runs, the Lions did it all on just four hits. Furuya began the scoring with an RBI groundout. Three batters later, Shelby Miller was hit by a pitch to plate Brackpool. Jones then drove in a run with a fielders' choice to second that kept the bases loaded. The next batter, VanDerveer walked to score Sorenson. Erin Pond (Lagrange, Ohio) next drove in a run on an RBI groundout. Two runs scored as Shannon Good (Horseheads, N.Y.) reached on a throwing error. A double down the left field line by Brackpool setup Furuya to plate two more runs on a single.
