COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State scored four runs in the first inning and LHP Tanner Tully yielded just four hits to Penn State in seven innings en route to a 7-1 victory over the Nittany Lions in Big Ten baseball action Saturday in Bill Davis Stadium.

Tully (3-1) allowed just five Penn State (8-16, 1-2 B1G) batters to reach in seven innings of work, yielding four hits and a hit batsman, while striking out six. The Lions' lone run came in the ninth inning when pinch hitter Ryan Richter (Wayne, Pa.) scored from third base on a wild pitch. In addition to Richter, Taylor Skerpon (Sayre, Pa.), Greg Guers (Langhorne, Pa.), Aaron Novak (Ambler, Pa.), Jim Haley (Upper Darby, Pa.), J.J. White (Lansdowne, Va.), Christian Helsel (Altoona, Pa.) and James Coates (Girard, Ohio) each tallied a hit.

Catcher Connor Sabanosh drove in four runs for Ohio State (20-7, 3-1 B1G), going 2-for-2, while centerfielder Troy Montgomery went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Left fielder Ronnie Dawson homered and tripled.

Montgomery led the game off with a triple and scored on a single by Sabanosh for the first run. Sabanosh then scored on a one-out double by third baseman Troy Kuhn, and Kuhn scored on a home run to right field by Dawson.

Montgomery scored the fifth and sixth runs for the Buckeyes in the second and fourth innings, respectively, singling, stealing second and third and crossing home on a sacrifice fly by Sabanosh both times. Sabanosh then singled to drive in a run in the sixth inning.

LHP Nick Hedge (Winnetka, Ill.) (0-4) went six innings for Penn State, allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits, no walks and two hit batters with two strikeouts.

The three-game series continues Sunday and Monday with 1:05 first-pitch times. LHP Taylor Lehman (1-2, 7.40) is slated to start Sunday and face Ohio State's RHP Travis Lakins (1-2, 3.73).
