Lions Return to Campus After Summer League Action

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Members of the Penn State baseball team have returned to Happy Valley and the classroom after playing in various summer collegiate leagues. From Nick Riotto's all-league performance to Dakota Forsyth's league championship, here is how they did.

Nick Riotto & Alex Malinsky -- Galion Graders
OF Nick Riotto was named first-team All-Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League after earning a mid-season all-star nod. He finished third in the league with a .385 batting average in 29 games, belting a home run and 14 RBIs and swiping 11 bases. Malinsky batted .268 with eight RBIs in 26 games. Galion finished 10th in the league with a 16-22 record in their inaugural season.
Dakota Forsyth -- Baltimore Redbirds
RHP Dakota Forsyth helped the Redbirds win their fourth consecutive Cal Ripken League Championship. He posted a 1.83 ERA and 4-1 record in nine appearances with seven starts, totaling 34 1/3 innings pitched and 27 strikeouts. If the first game of the best-of-three championships series, Forsyth worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks.
Jack Anderson -- Cotuit Kettleers
RHP Jack Anderson finished with a 3.64 ERA pitching in the prestigious Cape League. He went 3-2 with 32 strikeouts in 31 innings pitched over 20 appearances. Cotuit finished with a 17-27 record and was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
Christian Helsel -- Battle Creek Bombers
IF Christian Helsel finished the season batting .261 with a home run and 21 RBIs in 54 games. The Bombers finished seventh in the Northwoods League standings with a 27-44 record and, ironically for Helsel, suffered a rainout in the their season finale just like the Nittany Lions did in May.
Jake Pilewicz -- Riverhead Tomcats
RHP Jake Pilewicz also earned a mid-season all-star nod. He finished the season with a 3.00 ERA and 2-4 record, making six starts and six relief appearances, while striking out 33 in 39 innings. The Tomcats finished with a 14-28 record.
Jim Haley -- North Adams Steeplecats
IF Jim Haley batted .245 with seven doubles and 13 RBIs in 41 games. The SteepleCats posted a 21-21 record, falling in the division finals of the playoffs 2-1 in a best-of-three series.
