Penn State Continues Opening Weekend

Ivy Plus Invitational / UVA Ranked Plus One Day 2
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State men's tennis team continued their weekend at the UVA Ranked Plus One Tournament and the Ivy Plus Invitational. Both tournaments will continue through Sunday.

The majority of the Nittany Lions competed in the Ivy Plus Invitational today in Princeton, N.J. Senior Roman Trkulja (Toronto, Canada) fell to Tessaro(Va Tech) with a final score of 63,75. Tomas Hanzlik (Praque, Czech Republic) lost a tough 57,64,10-3 match to Pritchard(Tulsa). Junior Marc Collado (Barcelona, Spain) was victorious over Pompan(Penn) 63, ret. David Kohan (Sydney, Austrialia) lost in a close match of 63,46,76)6) to Princeton's Kaiser. The final singles match of the day was Freshman Ben Lieb winning 62,20 over Arevelillo(Buffalo).

The doubles competing at the Ivy Plus Invitational included Collado/Matt Galush (Cary, N.C) falling to Colombia's Vermeer/Pham with a final score of 8-1. Trkulja/Lieb went on to win 8-4 against Hagermoser/Stenning(Yale).

Some of the other Penn State players were in Charlottesville today to compete at the UVA Ranked Plus One Tournament. Junior Aws Laaribi (Rye, N.Y.) started his day off with a 7-6(4), 1-6, 6-3 win against Beck Pennington(UK). Laaribi went on to lose to Max Andrews(UM) in a close 6-2, 7-6 match. Matt Barry (Lido Beach, N.Y.) fell to Piotr Lomacki(UM) with a 6-2, 6-4 final score. Barry finished his day victorious with a win over Trey Yates(UK) in a 6-1, 6-1 match.
