Nittany Lions Claim 6th Place in East-West Match

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's golf team came up short against defending East-West Match champions SMU in the finals of the consolation bracket losing the match play 4-0-1.

Sophomore Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Dublin, Ireland) battled all day against her opponent and came back to tie it in the second to last hole. Diez went on to tie the final hole as well and finished all squared with her opponent.

Newcomer Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) also came back from a deficit and took the lead up 1 heading into her second nine. Rogowicz maintained the lead for two more holes, but fell just short in her match losing 2 up.

Seniors Grace Chung (Richmond Hill, Ontario) and Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) both fell short in their match ups losing 2 and 1. While newcomer Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) lost to her opponent 3 and 2.

The University of Oregon edged out Colorado University in the final pairing to win the 2015 East-West Match tournament 3 to 2.

Kathy Lim from the University of Michigan won the individual champion by defeating Jessica Reinecke from Wisconsin 4 and 3.

The Nittany Lions will be traveling to North Carolina to compete in their next tournament the Pinehurst Invitational on October 12-13.
