BOALSBURG, Pa. - The Penn State baseball team started a new tradition at the start of the school year, hosting its first golf outing to support the program Saturday, August 29 at Mountain View Country Club in Boalsburg.
The event brought alumni, families, friends and fans of the program together for a unique opportunity to meet the current teams as well. Seventeen foursomes competed in the event with many others supporting, as well. The foursome of Kennan Klett, Kirk Klett, Ben Babcock and Zac Grey were medalists with a low score of 58.
The tournament included a variety of additional competitions throughout, such as "longest drive" and "longest putt." Sophomore pitcher Taylor Lehman won the former on the 14th hole, while recent graduate J.J. White won the latter with a 27-foot putt on the 17th hole.
The day concluded with a luncheon where head coach Rob Cooper discussed the future of the program and handed out a host of prizes.
Penn State baseball is presently in the midst of fall practice and looking ahead to a historic trip to Cuba over Thanksgiving break. Students-athletes will have the opportunity to experience Cuban history and culture through lectures, tours and site visits, while also playing approximately three to four exhibition games.
The team will be relying on the assistance of its fans, alumni and friends for funding of the trip. If you wish to support the Lions, contact Kirk Diehl or Rick Janac at the Nittany Lion Club at 814-865-9462 or visit http://gopsu.info/GivePSUBase.
