Penn State Completes Second Day at ITA Regionals

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa, October 16, 2015 ââ'¬" The Penn State women's tennis team finished their second day at the ITA Regional tournament this weekend in Lynchburg, Va. The tournament is scheduled throughout the weekend and will conclude Monday, October 19th. The six Nittany Lion team members competing in the tournament took part in various main draw matches and several additional matches.

The team had a successful day today in their main draw singles matches, Kim Surin (Montreal, Canada) defeated Raluca Mita from Virginia Tech 6-4, 6-2. Devan McCluskey (Phoenix, Ariz.) defeated Emily Groeneveld of Liberty 6-3, 6-3. Katia Blik (Moscow, Russia) then defeated Timea Guibe of James Madison 6-2, 6-4. For the teams additional singles matches, Jacqueline Zuhse (Boca Raton, Fla.) defeated Sam Droop of Navy 8-0, Catalina Rico of Navy defeated Taylor Shukow (Boca Raton, Fla.) 6-3, 7-5, and Emma Petersen of James Madison defeated Katherine Whiteaway (Sawbridgeworth, England) 8-5

In doubles action, Devan McCluskey and Katia Blik defeated Anna Dollar and Maria Khval of Liberty 8-3. Kelly Williford and Francesca Fusinato of Virginia Tech defeated Devan McCluskey and Katia Blik in the Round of 16 by the score of 8-2. In additional double matches, Emma Peterson and Rebecca Harris of James Madison defeated Jacqueline Zuhse and Katherine Whiteaway 8-5

"Today was another full day of matches with a number of good wins," said head coach, Coach Cagle, "The competition will continue to get tougher tomorrow and our singles competitors will need to be ready to battle through multiple matches. We will be ready to compete starting at 9:30 am tomorrow."
