UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.
- Hitting the course for the first time in three weeks, the No. 19 Penn State women's cross country team recorded a third-place finish at the Greater Louisville Classic behind a top-10 performance by sophomore Elizabeth Chikotas (Hellertown, Pa.)

Chikotas, would lead the Nittany Lion women to a third-place finish, ahead of No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 23 Minnesota, and Ohio State to name a few.
Finishing closely behind Chikotas were Jillian Hunsberger (Pittsburgh, Pa.)(17:13.73), Tori Gerlach (Perkasie, Pa.)(17:23.33), Tessa Barrett (Waverly, Pa.)(17:34.60), and Stphanie Aldrich (West Chester, Pa.)(17:37.02) in 11th, 24th, 37th, and 42nd-place, respectively.

"As a team it was a pretty good effort," said senior Tori Gerlach.

"The women finishing third was outstanding," said head coach John Gondak.

"It was a great field this weekend, I'm very proud they were able to pull that off. We had some really good things happen today, our women up front ran very well. To come away earning a few quality points towards qualifying for the national championships was a good showing.

For the men, it was the duo of Conner Quinn (Horsham, Pa.) and Wade Endress (Altoona, Pa.) who led the way for the Nittany Lions recording 28th and 29th-place finishes recording times of 24:35.07 and 24:35.42, respectively.

Quinn and Endress would be followed closely by teammates Robby Creese (Mount Airy, Md.)(24:45.13), who made his 2015 season debut, Ean DiSilvio (Pittsburgh, Pa.)(24:50.32), and Colin Abert (Easton, Pa.)(25:05.31) in 47th, 56th, and 75th-place to round out scoring for Penn State.

Senior Glen Burkhardt (Kennett Square, Pa.), who was towards the front of the pack early on in the race, dropped out of the event after the first few miles, a tough loss for the men's team.

"On the men's side we had some good individual performances," said head coach John Gondak.

"We were just off a little bit as a team. Losing Glen Burkhardt in the middle of the race affected us as team. We were right on the edge of where we wanted to be, I thought we could be a team that was fifth or sixth in this meet and we ended up eighth. I know they're hungry for more as we move forward, I think the fitness and ability level is there we just have to be more dialed in the next time we go to race in two weeks. Our strength is running in a pack, and we didn't do a good job of that today."

As a team the Nittany Lions finished eighth with a score of 214.

Penn State will travel to Madison, Wisconsin for the Wisconsin Adidas Invite Oct. 16.
