Charpin Takes Ninth at North American Cup

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ââ'¬" The Penn State fencing team finished its second day of competition at the North American Cup, seeing a top-10 placement by sophomore Kathryn Charpin (Setauket, N.Y.). Penn State was represented by three underclassmen fencers in the junior men's foil and junior women's sabre events.

Despite being the sole member of the women's team to compete, Charpin was able to find success in the sabre event, finishing ninth on the day. Charpin was the top finisher for the Nittany Lions, securing a top-10 spot out of a field of 142 competitors.

Freshmen Julian Fevry (St. Albans, N.Y.) and Ethan Gumagay (Vienna, Va.) both competed in the men's foil event. Fevry advanced to the third round of direct elimination play and finished in 39th place. Gumagay did not advance through pool play.

Penn State will finish competition at the Kansas City North American Cup tomorrow with the men's sabre event, beginning at 8 a.m.
