Five Nittany Lions Garner NSCAA All-Region Honors

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Five members of the Penn State women's soccer team received All-Great Lakes Region honors, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Thursday.

Emily Ogle (Strongsville, Ohio), Raquel Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica) and Megan Schafer (Langhorne, Pa.) were named to the All-Great Lakes Region First Team, while Britt Eckerstrom (Germantown, Md.) and Mallory Weber (Novi, Mich.) were named to the second team.

Ogle, a sophomore, has started all 25 matches this season, tallied seven goals, which includes four goals in the NCAA Tournament, and five assists. Earlier this season, Ogle was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team and last season she received All-Great Lakes Third Team honors.

Rodriguez receives first team honors for the second-straight year. During her senior year in Blue and White, she has started all 25 matches, scored five goals and added six assists. Rodriguez was also named a semifinalist for the 2015 MAC Hermann Trophy earlier this week, tallied All-Big Ten First Team honors and named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Two First Team.

Leading the Nittany Lions in goals (13) and points (30), Schafer earns her first NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region First Team honor as a sophomore. Schafer has played in all 25 matches this season, including 22 starts and she also has tallied four assists in the 2015 season. Schafer was also named to the All-Big Ten Second Team.

Eckerstrom has started all 25 matches in net for the Nittany Lions during the 2015 campaign. Eckerstrom has made 64 saves, recorded a goals against average of 0.49 and allowed 12 goals in 2190:34 minutes of play. Eckerstrom and the Nittany Lion defense have posted six-straight shutouts and 13 on the season. Also, Eckerstrom was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the 2015 Big Ten Tournament and received CoSIDA Academic All-District Two First Team honors.

In her senior year at Penn State, Weber has scored eight goals, dished out a team-leading 10 assists and started all but one match. Four of Weber's eight goals this season have a clinched a victory for the Penn State Nittany Lions. Weber was named to the All-Big Ten First Team and is a finalist for the 2015 Soccer News Net College Boot award.

The No. 6 Nittany Lions play the No. 9 Rutgers Scarlet Knights Friday, Dec. 4, at 5 p.m., at WakeMed Soccer Park in the semifinals of the College Cup live on ESPNU.
