BALTIMORE ââ'¬" Senior foilist Nobuo Bravo (San Francisco, Calif.) ended competition today at the North American Cup with a top-10 finish. Bravo saw an impressive fifth place finish in the Division I men's foil event, amid a field of 152 competitors.
Bravo's fifth place finish will count towards his Olympic qualifications. Bravo is the first Nittany Lion to compete during the weekend-long Olympic trials in Baltimore.
Sophomore Julia Higson (State College, Pa.) will compete in the Division II women's epee event at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6. Freshman Karol Metryka (Linden, N.J.) and sophomore Andrew Mackiewicz (Westwood, Mass.) will compete in Division I men's sabre starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 7. Sophomore Ian Gregory (State College, Pa.) will also compete Monday, in the Division II men's epee event beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Bravo will join his teammates in Fairfield, Conn. on Dec. 6 to fence in Penn State's first NCAA match against Sacred Heart, Vassar, Princeton, Harvard, New York University and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Competition begins at 9 a.m.
