ST. LOUIS - The January North American Cup came to a close today with Penn State participating in the Division I women's sabre event.
Kathryn Charpin (Setauket, N.Y.) was the sole competitor for the Nittany Lions in today's competition. Charpin battled hard through pool play and advanced to direct elimination as the 48th seed.
Charpin fell after the first round of direct elimination play, and ended in 69th on the day.
Overall, the Nittany Lions had a strong showing at the tournament. Throughout the four-day long competition, Penn State took home a total of three top-10 and three top-20 finishes.
The team returns home this weekend for its first NCAA duel of 2016, and its final home event of the season. Penn State will face-off against Yale, Columbia, Haverford, Duke, Temple (women only), the University of North Carolina and the University of Pennsylvania. The meet will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16.
