Women's Golf Earns Top Ten Finish In Opening Spring Tournament

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team competed in the final round of the Clover Cup and shot 304 plus-16 for a final tournament score of 910 plus-46. This performance earned the Lions their third top ten finish on the season as they finished ninth in the standings.

Sophomore Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Dublin, Ireland) finished strong in the opening tournament, as she improved her second round score by nine strokes and shot a 71 1-under in the final round. Diez shot 226 plus-10 for the tournament and ended tied for 32nd in the player leaderboard.

Senior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) finished with the lowest total score on the team as she shot 74 plus-2 in the final round for a tournament score of 224 plus-8. Morell ended tied for 26th in the player leaderboard.

Newcomer Cara Basso (Dowingtown, Pa.) put together another solid round, shooting even par in the back nine, to finish with a round score of 75 plus-3. Basso tied her career low round score for the second day in a row.

Senior Grace Chung (Richmond Hill, Ontario) and newcomer Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) both shot two birdies and finished with a round score of 79 plus-7.

Newcomer Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) shot 80 plus-8 in the final round to finish with a total tournament score of 232 plus-16.

Southern Methodist University shot a team score of 281 7-under in the final round, the lowest team score of the tournament, on their way to winning the fifth annual Notre Dame Clover Cup. SMU's final round allowed them to run away with the win as they beat the second placed TCU by eight strokes.

The Nittany Lions will be traveling to Charleston, S.C. next week to compete in their second spring tournament, the Briar's Creek Invitational.
