TRACKTOWN REPEATS
The Nittany Lions have three individuals returning to the NCAA Outdoor Championships after competing in the NCAA Indoor Championships this past March in Birmingham, Ala.
Brannon Kidder qualifies for the outdoor championships following an indoor season that saw the senior grab All-America honors in the 800-meters finishing seventh in a time of 1:50.29. Kidder has made the final of a race every year at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In 2013, as a true freshman, Kidder finished third in the 800-meters, placed 12th in the 1,500-meters as a sophomore, and took silver in the 800-meters in Eugene during his junior campaign.
Dannielle Gibson looks to improve during her second NCAA Championships appearance after posting a 10th-place finish in the triple jump during the Indoor Championships this past March. Gibson recorded a mark of 13.31m (43'-8") at the NCAA East Preliminarys that stands as the No. 11 performance in the NCAA this season and the No. 1 mark all-time under all-weather conditions in Penn State school history.
Tessa Barrett, who has qualified for every championship meet during the `15-'16 academic year (XC, ITF, OTF), looks to earn her second All-American finish as she wraps up her redshirt-freshman season. Barrett received All-American honors following the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships where she finished 38th leading her team to a 16th-place finish. Barrett finished 11th at the NCAA Indoor Championships posting a time of 16:25.94. The Waverly, Pa. native enters the Outdoor Championships sporting the No. 35 time in the nation this year at 16:06.19 set during the Pepsi Invitational at Hayward Field back on April 9.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
The Nittany Lions competed in nine meets in five states before they returned to Happy Valley for the Jim Thorpe Invite (May 6). Following the Jim Thorpe Invite, Penn state has traveled to Lincoln, Neb. (Big Ten Outdoors), Jacksonville, Fla. (NCAA First Round) and is set to make the final trip of the season with a west coast trip to Eugene, Ore. for the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
2015 NCAA OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP
Senior Darrell Hill capped off his career as a Nittany Lion at Historic Hayward Field with a second-place finish in the men's shot put on day one of the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Hill's runner-up finish is tied for the highest finish in school history in the men's shot put (C.J. Hunter -- 1990). Hill finished the meet with a throw of 68'-2.25", his mark tied Jon Jones of Buffalo but Jones maintained his first-place finish by holding a tie-breaking second-best throw over Hill.
Rachel Fatherly competed in her first NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships recorded a 10th-place finish in the women's shot put with her throw of 54'-8.25" inches.
