Lion Men's Tennis Seeks Success at ITA Regional Championships This Weekend

October 13, 2016 - UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; The Penn State men's tennis team is back on the court this weekend for a fall championship tournament. The Nittany Lions will be heading to Virginia Tech to compete at the ITA Regional Championships in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. Championship play will begin on Friday, October 14 and conclude on Tuesday, October 18.

Last weekend, the blue and white travelled four players, three newcomers and one veteran, to the Bobby Bayliss Invitational in South Bend, Ind. They showed a solid performance, taking two doubles and one singles over the course of the weekend. The Lions are expecting to see players, both upper- and under- classmen, step up to play championship level tennis this weekend.

"We are excited about participating in one of the biggest tournaments of the fall season," says head coach Jeff Zinn. "We have a number of players seeded both in singles and doubles, the goal is to get a couple players and teams deep into the tournament," Zinn explains. "We use these fall tournaments as a gauge for figuring out who will play for us in the spring. The competition will be fierce at Virginia Tech with a total of close to 40 universities represented."
