WINTHROP, Mass. - A pair of Nittany Lions received College Hockey America (CHA) monthly honors for Sept./Oct., as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Senior Laura Bowman (Minnetonka, Minn.) was named the Player of the Month and freshman Daniela Paniccia (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) received Goalie of the Month honors.
This is Bowman's second career Player of the Month honor, as she received the award for the month of December in 2014, and this is Paniccia's first career Goalie of the Month award. Earlier this season, Paniccia was named the Rookie of the Week on Oct. 24 and she brought home Goalie of the Week honors on Oct. 31.
Bowman, a forward, has recorded 15 points on nine goals and six assists in 10 games played. Among the nation's leaders, Bowman is tied for first in goals, is tied for 22nd in assists, is tied for third in points, is tied for eighth in +/- (+12), is first in faceoff wins (146) and seventh in shots on goal (48). Bowman is one of 16 student-athletes to tally a hat trick this season.
Earlier this season, Bowman posted a season-best point streak of four games with nine points (5-4-9) and heading into the Mercyhurst series, Bowman has a point streak of three games with five points (3-2-5).
Paniccia has opened up her Nittany Lion career with a record of 3-1-1. On the year, she has tallied 169 saves, a goals against average of 1.56, a save percentage of .949 and has posted three shutouts. In the nation, her save percentage is second-best, her three shutouts are tied for third-most and her goals against average ranks 13th.
Behind a 33-save performance against the UConn Huskies in a 0-0 tie, Paniccia became the first Nittany Lion freshman goaltender to record a solo shutout on Oct. 21. She has recorded three-straight shutouts and has not allowed a goal in the last 184:26 minutes played.
The Nittany Lions close out their six-game road trip at Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa., Nov. 4-5.
