UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Alumni, fans and friends of the Penn State baseball program can reserve their seats for the fifth annual First Pitch Dinner, which will be held Friday, January 20 at The Penn Stater Conference Center and Hotel. ESPN college baseball analyst Mike Rooney will serve as the keynote speaker.
Rooney is a Philadelphia native and spent five years coaching at Malvern Prep in Malvern, Pennsylvania, prior to joining the Arizona State coaching staff. While at Malvern Prep, he coached two first-round MLB picks in four years as the head coach - Ben Davis (2nd pick overall by the Padres in 1995) and Josh McKinley (11th pick overall by the Expos in 1998). At Arizona State, tutored the likes of current Major Leaguer Dustin Pedroia. He has served as an ESPN analyst since 2009.
The event will include dinner, a silent auction, introduction of the 2017 team and Rooney's address. The tradition of baseball alums presenting the current team with their jerseys will also continue.
Doors will open for the general public at 6 p.m. with a cash bar and auction items on display. Following the dinner will be a post banquet social for all former Penn State Baseball Alumni players and their significant other.
The cost is $60 per person for adults and $30 for children ages 3 to 12. Table sponsorships are available this year, which include 10 seats, a gift from Penn State Baseball, and 10 seats in a suite during a home baseball contest. All proceeds benefit Penn State baseball.
