Women's Tennis Announces Four Additions to the 2017-18 Roster

Nov. 17, 2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Head Coach Chris Cagle announced the addition of four new players to the Fall 2017 roster. The incoming class includes Olivia Rohrbacher (Sandusky, Ohio), Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark), Ines Milosevic (Ontario, Canada), and Gabby O'Gorman (New South Wales, Australia).

Head Coach Chris Cagle commented on the addition to the women's tennis team. "It is not often that you bring in four recruits in one fall signing period. This class will make a big impact on our program. All four of these student athletes fit well within Penn State's philosophies of balancing a world-class education with elite athletics. In addition, they all fit well with our team dynamics and philosophies. Coach Fenwick and I look forward to pushing them daily to make them better on the court and to make them the best student athletes they can be."

Olivia Rohrbacher, from Sandusky, Ohio, was the 2015 New Balance High School National Champion. She was ranked as high as # 20 in her recruiting class in the US. Other notable achievements from Rohrbacher include being the 2016 North West Ohio Tennis Association player of the year, a four-time conference MVP and champion, four-time sectional and district champion. She also holds multiple National Doubles Titles and has been a three-time High School Team Captain.

"Olivia was our first commitment for the fall of 2017. On the court Olivia controls play with the many weapons she has in her game," said head coach Chris Cagle. "Being ranked as high as 20 in her recruiting class shows the level she can play at. I know being in a daily competitive environment is going to allow Olivia's game to continue to grow."

Frederikke Svarre joins the Nittany Lions from Copenhagen, Denmark. Svarre is the 2014, 18 and under Danish Junior Champion in singles and the 2015, 18 and under Danish Junior Champion in singles and mixed doubles. In 2015 she earned her first 2 WTA ranking points and this year she earned her 3rd WTA ranking point and appeared on the world-ranking list.

"I had followed Freddie's progress for many months during the recruiting process and have seen her take high level tournament play to make her game better," said head coach Chris Cagle. "She, like all of our student athletes, is looking to take her tennis as far as she can. The daily competitiveness of our program and our match schedule will only make her better. Her success in both singles and doubles will make an impact on our team."

Milosevic comes to Happy Valley from Ontario, Canada. She has won two Canadian National Doubles Championships, captured an Ontario Provinical Singles Title and finished in the top 3 on multiple occasions. Milosevic is a three time Ontario Provincial Doubles Champion and a two-time ITF Junior Doubles Champion and three time finalist. She has been consistently ranked in the top 10 of Canadian Juniors for singles and doubles during her junior career.

Coach Cagle noted how Milosevic's competitive side will add to the team. "Ines has played a strong ITF juniors schedule and been a top player in Canada for years. She has won national championships in Canada and played in pressure situations in a variety of locations. She will definitely add experience and a competitive desire to our team which will make us better."

Gabby O'Gorman hails from New South Wales, Australia. She was the winner of Monte Carlo Junior Open in 2014, runner up at Australian Grass Court Championships at Mildura, is a three time Australian Merit Team Member and a member and captain of the New South Wales Pizzey Cup Team.

Coach Cagle commented on the addition of O'Gorman next fall. "Gabby's athleticism and game will fit well with our program. She is a hard worker that will continue to get better in the college tennis environment," said head coach Chris Cagle. "Her competitiveness has stood out to Coach Fenwick and myself during the entire recruiting process. I know Gabby will add to our team and I look forward to seeing just how far we can help her take her tennis"
