UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; January 12, 2017 ââ'¬" The Penn State women's tennis team will open its spring 2016 season at home this Saturday, January 14, at 12:00 p.m. at the Indoor Tennis Center. The matchup against Navy is the first of six consecutive home matches scheduled for the Nittany Lions to start the season.
The team looks to get back into action after competing in five tournaments this past fall. With two freshman additions; Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) and Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.); as well as transfer Bennett Dunn (Orlando, Fla.) for the 2016-2017 season, the team approaches the season as an experienced group.
"Our team is excited to get into team dual match competition vs. Navy this Saturday", said Head Coach Chris Cagle. "The fall season prepares us for the spring season which is our main focus so it is nice to get to this time of the year. For the fans that come out you should expect to see great tennis in an energetic environment."
Looking ahead, fourteen of the Nittany Lions' opponents this season are in Power Five conferences and twelve opponents were previously ranked during some portion of last year's spring season.
The Indoor Tennis Center this located right next to the Pegula Ice Arena, across from the Bryce Jordan Center.
