Lions Triumph over No.1 Columbia at Last Home Dual of the Season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Nittany Lions had an epic day of competition at the last home dual meet of the spring season against Yale, Penn, Duke, Columbia, North Carolina and Temple (women's only). The men's fencing team excelled against No.1 Columbia, posting a 14-13 win.

Penn State competed against Yale in round one with the women's team winning 20-7 and men's winning 18-9. In round two the women's team triumphed over Penn 15-12 win and the men won 16-11.

Penn State dominated Duke in the third round, with the women winning 20-7 and men 17-10. In round four, Penn State women's team fell to Columbia 11-16 despite a 3-0 shut out performance from senior Jessie Radanovich (Tollhouse, Calif.) in epee. Also, two 2-1 performances from sophomore DeAna Oliver (Montclair, N.J.) in saber and freshman Barbara Vanbenthuysen (Spring, TX) in epee.

The Penn State men's team came out on top in round four against Columbia with a 14-13 win due to sophomore Matthew Lewicki securing the winning point during his final 5-2 win in sabre.

Penn State continued its winning streak in round five with a win over North Carolina in women's 17-10 and men's 25-2.The Penn State women's team also grabbed another victory, coming out on top against Temple 14-13.

The Lions finished the day with one last victory over Haverford, with the women's team scoring 23-4 and men's team winning 22-5.

The Penn State fencing team will be back in actions on Saturday, Jan. 21 in Queens, N.Y.
