The Men's Fencing Team Gains Two-Peat Win Over No. 1 Columbia

Queens, N.Y. - The Nittany Lions competed in the St. John's Invitational with another men's win over Columbia.

The Lions started the day with the women's team winning 14-13 over Ohio State with senior Teodora Kakhiani (Tbilisi, Georgia) gaining a 3-0 shutout performance in saber. The men defeated Ohio State 15-12 with two shutout performances from senior Howie Chan (Walnut, Calif.) in foil and sophomore Joshua Cole (Chappaqua, N.Y.) in epee.

Men's fencing fell to Notre Dame 9-18 with a 3-0 shutout performance by junior Andrew Mackiewicz (Westwood, Mass.) in saber and another shutout performance by sophomore Joshua Cole (Chappaqua, N.Y.) in epee. Women's fencing also fell to NDU 10-17.

The women's team beat St. John's 19-8 with two shutout performances by senior Desree Ortega-Furgeson (Wyoming, Mich.) and freshman Jade Rowland (Princeton Junction, N.J.) in foil. The men defeated St. John's 14-13.

The women's team fell to Columbia 9-18 while the men's team gained a two-peat win beating Columbia 16-11. With two shutout performance from sophomore Matthew Lewicki (Oakland, N.J.) in saber and freshman Clinton Rodell (Annadale, VA) in epee.

The men's and women's team both fell to Harvard with a 11-16 loss.
