UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.
- Penn State's Xavier Smith and Keianna Albury swept the 60-meter titles as Penn State set the tone on day one of the Penn State National Open at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.

It was a short day one at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track but there was lots of action throughout the facility.

Xavier Smith (6.69) and Keianna Albury (7.46) swept the 60-meters with Albury setting a new personal best along the way. Smith's time was just 0.01 seconds way from his own school record of 6.68 that he set last season.

Malik Moffett, who ran in the final with Smith, finished fourth in the 60-meters running a time of 6.76, 0.01 seconds out of second-place while setting a new PR.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Quenee Dale represented Penn State as the lone Lion in the final running 8.41 in a second-place performance.

Robert Cardina and Volunteer Assistant Coach Eddie Lovett both advanced to the semifinals of the men's 60-meter hurdles with Cardina bowing out in a time of 8.37 while Lovett won the event in the finals with a time of 7.66 seconds.

Both the men's and women's DMR's turned in solid performances as the women relay (Danae Rivers, Kiara Lester, Rachel Banks, Tessa Barrett) finished second in a time of 11:15.00, while the men's relay (Domenic Perretta, Sam Reiser, Isaiah Harris, Colin Abert) time of 9:40.59 finished fourth.

Standouts on day one in the field events were the trio of Morgan Shigo, David Lucas and Kory Decesaris in the men's weight throw and Alyssa Robinson and Obeng Marfo in the women's weight throw.

On the men's side, Shigo, Lucas and Decesaris finished 2-3-4 turning in marks of 66'-9.75" (20.36m), 64'-3" (19.58m) and 62'-8.5" (19.11m), respectively.

Shigo's mark of 20.36m is a new PR for the sophomore from Blandon, Pa. and moves him into sole possession of No. 2 all time in Penn State indoor history.

For the women, Robinson and Marfo posted identical marks of 58'-5.75" (17.82m) to take fifth-place.

Penn State will return for day two of the Penn State National Open starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
