FH Alumni Update: Carly Celkos

Feb. 16, 2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- In our first edition of the Penn State field hockey alumni update we take a look at what one of our senior from this past season Carly Celkos.

While gearing up for THON 2017, Celkos is also completing an internship and training for the U.S. Field Hockey Developmental team as she explains below.

Hometown: Berlin, N.J.

Years with PSUFH: 2013-2016

Major: Rehabilitation and Human Services

Penn State Field Hockey: What are you currently up to?

Celkos: I'm completing an internship at HealthSouth Rehabilitation hospital (Altoona) with an occupational therapist; I plan on attending grad school next fall for that exact occupation.

I shadow and observe the OT, I treat when I can, there are a few things I can't do because I don't have a master's degree but I help transport patients and keeping them company. I've learned so much and it's really cool. I work every day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET.

I work with people who have spinal cord injuries, Parkinson's disease, strokes, severe car accidents and more, it's extremely interesting.

Celkos has also been selected to the USA field hockey developmental team and is continuing to train for that opportunity as well alongside her former teammates and coaches.

Celkos: I work out in the afternoons, I'll train with Penn State M-W-F because on Tuesday-Thursday they practice in the mornings and I can't make it. But it is still something (field hockey) I love to do and am passionate about.

Penn State Field Hockey: Favorite memory as a Nittany Lion?
I'd definitely say that one of my most memorable moments are with the team, they're my best friends.

Winning the Big Ten Championship this year was so special for me to end my senior year like that and we had such a great group of girls. But I think it's the off the field stuff that happened on away trips or happened on the weekends and having fun together that I'll remember the most.
